Details:

On December 4, 2018, at 8:05pm, officers with the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to several reports of gunfire in the 6100 block of Landsdowne Dr. While on the way, an officer was flagged down at the intersection of E. Hawthorne St. and Decatur Rd. by a good samaritan who was transporting a male suffering from an apparent gunshot wound. It was immediately learned that his male had been shot in the 6100 block of Landsdowne Dr., and medics determined this male to be in serious condition. Upon being transported to a local hospital, the male was downgraded to critical condition by hospital physicians.

Initial information indicates a male was outside of a home in the 6100 block of Landsdowne Dr, when a red Ford F150, occupants unknown, drove past the male and at least one person inside the pickup engaged in a gun battle with the male victim. The victim was hit by at least one bullet, and the pickup sped off. Detectives believe this pickup truck may have been struck by gunfire as well.

Once officers arrived on Landsdowne Dr., they located several shell casings, as well as one handgun.

Investigators are in the process of identifying who the handgun belongs to, as well as trying to piece together the motive for this shooting. Police are also trying to ascertain if the male victim is an adult or a juvenile. The victim will be interviewed at the earliest possible opportunity.

Other than the F150, there is no additional suspect information.

Crime scene technicians are currently processing the scene, searching for and collecting any evidence. Detectives are going door to door in an attempt to locate any witnesses. Surveillance footage from any nearby business will also be examined at a later date.

Anyone with any information is asked to contact police.

This incident remains under investigation by the Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
