Critical Condition

On Tuesday, 04/25/2017, at approximately 7:54 PM, the City of Fort Wayne Police Department responded to a vehicle crash with injuries at the intersection of Maplecrest Road and Parrot Road.  Officers arrived on scene and determined a passenger car and motorcycle were involved in the crash.  The male/adult driver of the motorcycle and female/adult passenger on the motorcycle were both transported by medics to a local hospital in critical condition.  The front seat female/adult passenger in the passenger car was transported to a local hospital in stable condition reference a complaint of neck pain.

Initial reports indicate the crash appears to be the result of a road rage incident involving a speed contest.  Witnesses indicated a Chevy Monte Carlo was driving southbound on Maplecrest Road and passed the motorcycle.  The driver of the motorcycle accelerated and began racing the Monte Carlo.  In an effort to cut the Monte Carlo off, the driver of the motorcycle attempted to quickly change lanes.  While attempting the lane change, the motorcycle rear-ended another passenger car that was traveling southbound on Maplecrest Road.  The passenger car that was rear-ended was not involved in the road rage incident.  The driver of the Monte Carlo did remain at the scene and provide a statement to investigators.  Investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs were contributing factors in the crash.  It does appear reckless driving and high speeds were both contributing factors.  It is unknown at this time if the driver or passenger of the motorcycle were wearing helmets at the time of the crash.

Maplecrest Road will remain closed to all traffic between Lake Avenue and Parrot Road while Crash Investigators process the scene.  This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecuting Attorney’s Office.
