On November 1, 2017, at 11:40hrs, the Fort Wayne Police Department responded to several reports of gunshots being fired in an apartment complex in the 2100 block of Hobson Rd. Officers arrived and located an adult female who advised that she was involved in a domestic disturbance with a Darrion Bright, who had fired gunshots at her during the disturbance, and then barricaded himself inside her apartment. She was able to flee without being injured.

Officers attempted to make contact with Darrion, but he refused to cooperate and exit the apartment. Because of the nature of the call, the Emergency Services Team and Crisis Response Team were summoned to the scene shortly after 12:30am. EST and CRT members tried for several hours to contact Darrion, both by using their loud speakers to call him out and also by telephone, but Darrion refused to surrender. A flash bang was used to try to compel Darrion to surrender peacefully, to no avail. Eventually, officers evacuated several nearby apartments, and EST members deployed tear gas into the apartment in an attempt to motivate Darrion to surrender peacefully. Finally, at 3:26am, Darrion surrendered peacefully and was taken into custody without incident. He was transported to the police station where he was interviewed and subsequently charged, and taken to jail.

Hobson Rd. was closed between E. State Blvd and Lake Ave during the investigation.  Crime Scene units remained on scene, searching for and collecting any evidence. There were no injuries reported and no other persons involved.

This incident remains under investigation by the City of Fort Wayne Police Department and the Allen County Prosecutor’s Office.
